|This article on the forming of the Shawsheen Village Women's Club appeared in the October 7, 1921 edition of the Andover
"On Monday evening, October 3rd, the Peptimist Club met in Balmoral hall, when a large number of women of the Village
were present as guests of the club.
After a short business session, Mrs. Donald Carter, president of the club addressed those present, outlining a plan for the
organization of a women's club. At the close of her remarks it was voted to form such a club to be called the Shawsheen
Village Women's Club. It was also voted to have the club meet once a month, after the first three meetings which are to be
held fortnightly. After minor details had been discussed and various suggestions made from the floor for the furthering the
interests of the club, the chairman accepted nominations from the floor for the various officers in the club organization.
Three nominations were made for each office. The officers will be elected at the next meeting of the club.
The nominations: for president, Mrs. Donald Carter, Mrs. Paine, Mrs. Holt; for vice president, Mrs.Winslow, Mrs. Gahm,
Mrs. Arthur Morrison; for treasurer, Mrs. Phillip Mooar, Mrs. Phillip Blades, Mrs. David Lawson; for secretary, Mrs.
Douglas Donald, Mrs. Horace Wood, Mrs. Gabeler; for corresponding secretary, Mrs. Green, Mrs. Arthur Little, Mrs. Edith
It is hoped that all who were not present on Monday evening will make a special effort to be at the next special meeting, the
date of which will be posted later."
This Club produced Membership directories every year which included names and addresses. I have a few of these which
I'll transcribe and post here.
